Biography
Krystal Teale is a contemporary painter based in Gig Harbor, Washington. Working primarily in acrylic, her practice encompasses botanical subjects, landscapes, and expressive compositions that move between representation and abstraction.
Her work is guided by an intuitive response to the world around her. Rather than beginning with a predetermined concept, Teale is drawn to subjects that capture her attention, allowing color, composition, and material to shape each painting as it develops.
Her recent work increasingly emphasizes scale and dimensional texture, transforming familiar subjects into paintings with a pronounced physical presence. Through layered surfaces and saturated color, she creates works that are both visually immediate and materially expressive.
Statement
Painting is a place where I find a sense of calm and freedom. I don't always begin with a particular message or meaning in mind. Often, I simply see something that captures my attention and want to paint it.
The process itself is what draws me back. I enjoy working with color, building texture, and watching a painting develop beyond the original idea. Some pieces are deliberate and detailed, while others become more intuitive as I work.
Painting has become a way for me to slow down, explore what interests me, and find something restorative in the act of creating. I hope the finished work offers others an opportunity to pause and experience something of their own.
